For one week each summer the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra decamps to the De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill's Grade I-listed Modernist landmark on the seafront. The 2026 residency opens with Symphonic Groove on 27 June — soul and disco played full-orchestra under the open sky — and closes on 4 July with ABBAphonic and Mega Music Saturday, a free all-day celebration. In between, the orchestra plays Tchaikovsky, Sibelius and Dvořák in the Pavilion's auditorium on 2 July.

The outdoor concerts are picnic affairs — the Pavilion sells picnic boxes for the lawn — while the auditorium evening is a dressier classical programme, with tickets from £22.50. Rye is thirty-five minutes along the coast, close enough to make the concert the centrepiece of a night away.

Stay at The River Haven

The De La Warr Pavilion is a thirty-five-minute drive from The River Haven Hotel along the coast road, so an evening concert ends with a quiet riverside room in Rye rather than a long journey home. Book the night of the performance and take breakfast on the Rother the next morning.
