Sussex bonfire is its own beast — torchlit, costumed, theatrical — and Hastings Borough Bonfire Society puts on the largest of the lot. Visiting societies from across Sussex join the home crew, processing through the cobbled lanes of the Old Town with brass bands and burning torches. A bonfire is lit on the beach and a twenty-minute fireworks display finishes the night.
It's free to attend, theatrical, and properly Sussex. Stay riverside at The River Haven for a quiet night once the embers die down.
Stay at The River Haven
Hastings is a 20-minute drive along the coast from Rye. Stay riverside at The River Haven and avoid the long drive back home in the dark.
