Hastings holds the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of pirates — 14,231 costumed buccaneers on Pelham Beach in 2012, and still unbeaten. Each July the town tries to keep up the tradition: two days of costumed processions through the cobbled lanes of the Old Town, sea shanties on the Stade, treasure hunts and family entertainment. Free, family-friendly and as chaotically silly as you'd hope.
