The Northiam Bonfire Society's flagship summer fundraiser fills the village Playing Field for a single Saturday in late June. The format is unhurried village fete — craft and produce stalls, a dog show, a beer and cider tent stocked by local breweries, live music through the afternoon — with a classic-car and vintage-vehicle display as the day's distinctive draw. Profits go straight back into the Society's bonfire and community programme, the same hands behind Northiam's autumn bonfire night.
Northiam sits nine miles inland from Rye on the road to Great Dixter, a fifteen-minute drive from The River Haven. The festival runs from 11am into the early evening, so it pairs cleanly with a morning at Dixter's gardens or a late-afternoon return to dinner on the Rother — easier with a riverside room to come back to than a drive home after the last pint.
Stay at The River Haven
Northiam Playing Field is a fifteen-minute drive from The River Haven. Pair the festival with a morning at Great Dixter on its doorstep and a riverside dinner back in Rye to make a full day of it.
