The Romney Marsh Wartime Collection sits on the marshland of the former RAF Brenzett — a wartime advanced landing ground that opened in September 1943 and flew Spitfires of 122 Squadron, then Mustangs of the Polish 133 Wing on anti-flying-bomb patrols through the summer of 1944. The museum opened in 1972 in the original Women's Land Army huts, and is still volunteer-run today. The annual Wartime Weekend brings the site back to its 1940s self: re-enactors in period kit, military vehicles, and trade stands across the field.
Rye is a fifteen-minute drive from Brenzett — close enough to do both days without making it a haul. Stay riverside at The River Haven, walk back to a riverside room each evening, and leave Sunday afternoon refreshed.
Stay at The River Haven
The collection is about a 15-minute drive from Rye. Stay riverside at The River Haven and make a weekend of it — Saturday at the museum, Sunday on Rye's cobbles before the drive home.
