Rye After Dark takes the Heritage Centre's celebrated Town Model and turns it into a 45-minute sensory show — projection mapping, light, scent, sound and special effects, layered onto the medieval town to bring out its stranger history. Witch-dunkings and curses, monks and apparitions, the spirit Mildred said to haunt the old sail loft, and the smuggling years' darker corners. You stay seated; the town does the moving.
The sail loft sits on Strand Quay, five minutes' walk from The River Haven. Book ahead — the show regularly sells out. Stay at the hotel, follow the river to the afternoon performance, and be back for dinner by the water.
Stay at The River Haven
The Heritage Centre is a five-minute walk from The River Haven along Strand Quay. Park at the hotel, walk in for the late-afternoon show, then back along the river for an early dinner.
